Hi!!
Every summer there is one song that should be played at least once in Dublin: “Summer in Dublin” by Bagatelle. Written in 1980 and released in 1998, it captured a version of the city so well that much of it still feels familiar more than four decades later.
One important detail has finally been overtaken by history. The famous 46A bus is gone and has been replaced by the E2. Bus routes and their names change, but somehow “Summer in Dublin” with the E2 would not have quite the same ring to it.
Some of you will immediately start humming the song. Others might have no idea what I am talking about and may never even have heard of Bagatelle. That would be a pity because the song is more than an old Irish hit.
It is a little piece of Dublin culture and with the summer weather continuing, now seems like the right time for its annual Dublin Event Guide appearance.
So before you head out to enjoy this week’s events, listen to “Summer in Dublin”. Then go out and create your own version of it. The 46A may be gone, but summer in Dublin is still here.
Here is the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMhWll_mfGk
Let’s see what’s on this week.
By the way: The original Bagatelle stopped performing when Liam Reilly, who wrote the song and who was the Bagatelle front man and singer, died in January 2021 aged just 65. But “Bagatelle & Friends” continue to perform with varying stand in singers and here is a more recent gig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Gho9gKnyc

Donations in July:
EUR 99
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
Thanks to Estelle, Miriam and Bobbi, who helped with a donation this week. I appreciate your help! If YOU read this and can help as well and want to join the ranks of the wonderful Dublin Event Guide supporters, please do so.
To keep the Dublin Event Guide going, I will find the events and you will need to help with the bills. None of the donations will go to me, it will all go to the Dublin Event Guide cost. The total cost per month is quite low at just EUR 200 per month, but we need to cover this monthly amount through donations to keep the Dublin Event Guide alive.
If the Dublin Event Guide saves you some time searching for events or has introduced you to events you would otherwise not have found, then please help to keep it coming every week.
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: https://gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via http://www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also https://revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here https://www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to http://www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

Please note: To speed up the creation of the weekday section of the Dublin Event Guide, I am experimenting with a few minor changes. One is that I am not adding the full address of the venue to all events anymore (for now). If you don’t know where the venue is, you will find it by checking the event link.

+++ Electric Scooters Aren’t the Problem. Enforcement Is.
The Irish government is not necessarily known for their progressive approach to day to day issue. They much rather ban and restrict than provide innovative solutions.
Last week suddenly they were talking about banning electric scooters because there were some accidents with children ending up in hospitals. It took many years to get scooters legalised and considering that we are all told that the future of transport is electric, that legalisation was the right path. Before 2024, scooters were illegal, but did that make much of a difference?
If you are interested in my opinion about the looming scooter ban, check it out here: https://www.joergsteegmueller.com/2026/07/17/banning-electric-scooters-wont-solve-irelands-problem/
